"Preparing Our Girls for the Game Called Life"
"The Women of Tomorrow"

Necole K. Muhammad is the Executive Director of Shades of Ebony, Inc. - an advocacy organization that is passionately empowering our girls to be the "Women of Tomorrow." Necole is a married mother of two beautiful children. She holds a Masters of Social Work, Type 73 from Chicago State University and is a Licensed Social Worker. As a full time Juvenile Probation Officer, she has watched our girl population triple over the last six years within our juvenile justice system and mental health facilities. The love she has for girls has led her to encourage our future women to speak out and grab the ears of our government and their communities to hear the issues that challenge them daily. Throughout the Chicagoland area, Necole has educated and articulated the issues of our girls to the public:

  • Dangerously in Love is a workshop for girls, parents, educators, social workers, and others that are interested in understanding the dynamics of adult men and adolescent girls engaging in inappropriate relationships.
  • Forensic Issues Regarding Adolescent Female Sexual Contact is a seminar regarding the development and challenges that our girls face that create the atmosphere for promiscuous sexual behavior and aggressive negative relationships (CSU).
  • The Biological Underpinnings of Female Adolescent Development is a seminar that helps parents and professionals understand the confusing behavior of female adolescents during this crucial period of development.
  • Creating Healthy Relationships With Me! A workshop that challenges girls to be in a healthy relationship with themselves. Teaching our girls to be their own best friend and how to utilize the best hands in the world, the two at the end of their wrist, as the best foundation they need for survival.
  • Who’s that Girl: Human Trafficking and Juvenile Prostitution is a seminar that educates the community, professionals and youth about the issues, resources and challenges surrounding human trafficking.

She has actively participated on several task force that have created major movements to expose juvenile prostitution in Chicago and provide safe spaces for our girls to reside while in transition from the street economy. She is also restructuring a Girl Power positive media, social action agenda that re-introduces our girls to the community as respected, empowered and strong "Women of Tomorrow." This is accomplished through billboard blitz, conferences, community service and collaborations. Working with President Senator Emil Jones, a loop hole in the Illinois Statute was amended regarding the "age of consent." This increases the protection of our girls and assists prosecutors in prosecuting cases that deal with criminal sexual assault, exploitation, and solicitation of juveniles.

Outside of the commitments mentioned above, Necole is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Rosemoor Community Association, PROMISE, Chicago Girls Coalition, AASECT, Rainbows, NASW, NABSW, SSWA, AAUW, AFSCME, and CSU Women's Resource Committee.
